The Rainbow Nation welcomes you to the Republic of South Africa (RSA), or as we call it, Mzansi.
CURRENCY
The currency is South African Rand (ZAR). For many travelers the exchange rate is very favourable. The most common form of payment is by bank card. Tipping 10% for services is suggested.
TRAVEL
We have a number of international airports including OR Tambo (Johannesburg), Cape Town and King Shaka (Durban).
LANGUAGE
While South Africa has 12 official languages, in the cities and tourist areas you can easily converse in English.

GLOBAL LOCATION
As the name describes, the country is located at the southern end of the African continent. South African Standard Time (SAST) is the same as CEST.

Johannesburg (JHB)
METROPOLIS
JHB is also called Joburg, Jozi, Egoli, and the City of Gold. It is a metropolis inclusive of areas like Rosebank and Sandton.
TRAVEL
Fly to OR Tambo International Airport and take the Gautrain to Rosebank. Use Uber, a hired car or conference organised shuttles. JHB is NOT a pedestrian city.
CAMPUS
The University of the Witwatersrand or Wits (pronounced Vitvatersrunt or Vits) was recently ranked as #1 in Africa. It has 7 campuses. The conference will be on the main Braamfontein campus.
TRAVEL
The access controlled Braamfontein campus is pedestrian friendly. Once you enter the campus you can walk between locations.
TOURISM
There are a number of on campus tourist attractions, including the Origins Centre, Wits Art Museum and the Wits Anglo American Digital Dome.
